WATCH EPISODE
Qiao Xingyue

Xingyue is an artist and filmmaker based in New York and Beijing. Having worked with Ai Wei Wei and many other acclaimed contemporary Chinese artists, Xingyue is well versed in the art world across China, Europe, and the United States. Xingyue’s work obliquely comments on China, its political obscurations, its citizens and their culture, ranging from themes of central authority, censorship, torture, class disparity, and rural tradition. His sensitivity and poetic lightness bring aesthetic clarity and innovation to the formats of photography, video documentary, and graphic design, while interrogating the social significance of these forms. His work has been exhibited internationally in micro-interventions, film festivals and traditional exhibitions. He’s directed television commercials and independent films in his homeland China. He presently lives in self-exile in New York, working on his first feature film.
Xingyue’s work can be seen at Carraige Trade Gallery in Social Photography X, on view through January 29, 2023.
